SHE is an entity composed of the aura of many other female ones. She is a witch, She a siren, She is whichever animal she sees fit. She is Hekate, Nyx, Eva, Pandora, Lilith, Medusa, Sycorax… SHE is made of many; many shes, many layers, many identities. She is divine, yet She is just a woman.
SHE is a dance and vocal solo performance by Anamaria Klajnšček. The creator drew primary inspiration for the performance from three sources: the female figures of her own family and their archetype of female power, the sirens as recurring mythological creatures, and witches as real female entities or designations of women throughout a dark history where some gained power and authority at their expense. As a theoretical foundation for SHE, the artist referenced several works, including: Mona Chollet: In Defense of Witches, Clarissa Pinkola Estés: Women Who Run With the Wolves, Silvia Federici: Caliban and the Witch, and Demetra George: Mysteries of the Dark Moon.
Anamaria Klajnšček (1996) is a Slovenian dancer and choreographer based between Spain and Slovenia. After completing her education at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, she initially worked with the TanzMainz dance ensemble in Germany, collaborating with Sharon Eyal, GN/MC, Guy Weizman, and Roni Haver. Since 2018, she has been self-employed, working on various dance projects with choreographers such as Roser López Espinosa, Pere Faura, Žigan Krajnčan, Guy Nader, and Maria Campos, while also creating her own performances. For the past four years, she has been performing with the duo COSSOC alongside Catalan dancer Magí Serro, participating in numerous international festivals. In the fall of 2022, she premiered her dance-vocal solo SHE, and in November 2023, she presented her newest project STREAM OF THOUGHTS: Intertwinement, a quartet featuring two musicians and two dancers.
