my private own* is a solo dance performance of personal fiction by author Petja Golec Horvat. A series of thematically connected dance miniatures represents a search for one’s own poetics through the reading of others. As Van Sant erased the boundary between his own words and Shakespeare’s texts in the 1991 film My Own Private Idaho, so my private own* intertwines its reality with what could be called "cinematic dreaminess" — the building of a personal fiction.

"To stand alone in the middle of a road, alone on stage.
To be one’s own in the exposed, vulnerable and tender revelation.
A gaze within – a young body, intimacy, one’s own and – is it even private?
Can I feel at home here?
...when, in a moment of ecstasy, we fall asleep."

Memories, experiences, or materials from a personal archive compose a kind of heuristic dance that confronts questions of home, privacy, and intimacy in a space where everything is visible.

Petja Golec Horvat (2004, Slovenia) is a young creator in the field of dance and performance art. She has participated multiple times in the national dance miniatures competition Opus1, receiving numerous recognitions and awards for her choreographic work. In 2022, she received the Best Miniature Award at the international Opus1 competition for the duet Soror (with Varja Golec Horvat). She performed in Vse je v redu (Everything is Fine, directed and choreographed by Nataša Živković, co-produced by City of Women and Ljubljana Puppet Theatre) and in the production The End of the World in Three Acts (directed by Selma Spahić, co-produced by the Borštnik Festival, Zagreb Youth Theatre, and Belgrade Drama Theatre). At the Gibanica 2023 festival, she received the Ksenija Hribar Award for promising work in contemporary dance. She is currently developing a series of performative events titled STILL UNKNOWN, produced by the Association for Cultural Production and Artistic Process Affirmation NAGIB.
